A.C OMONIA NICOSIA was founded on June 17th 1948 and joined the Cyprus Football Association in 1953. Our colors are Green and Whiteand our clubs emblem is the shamrock.

Since 1953 OMONIA has been playing in the top division ofthe Cyprus League and in this years became the most successful team . The first championship was won in the year 1961. In total OMONIA has won 19 championships,12cups and 14 super cups and participated in European competitions over 40 times.

OMONIA is by far the most popular team in Cyprus averaging over 12000 spectators per game which is a phenomenon especially if oneconsiders that the population of Cyprus is around 700000. Therefore the club justifiablywon the honorary title of “THE PEOPLE’SCLUB”. This is mainly due to the fact that although the club is based inNicosia enjoys wide support from allareas and regions of the country.

In its successful history of OMONIA has produced top class footballerswho will always remain in the football history books. Just mentioning one fromthe past Sotiris Kaiafas the most prolific in Cyprus who won the EuropeanGolden Boot award in 1975-1976 season as the top European scorer with 39 goals.Sotiris Kaiafas was honored as the best footballer of Cyprus on the ceremony ofthe 50th anniversary of UEFA.

OMONIA also claimed a record of five domesticdoubles-in 1972, 1974, 1981, 1982 and 1983. Also CFA declared us as the team ofthe 20thcentury – remaining the only team to have won the CypriotCup 4 consecutive times between of 1980-1984. OMONIA is the team which participated the most in EuropeanGames than any other Cypriot team, achieving some amazing results.

According to severalresearches, 38% of the island’s population supports OMONIA! Our fans are wellknown for their loyalty towards the club, their huge presence not only in thefields within Cyprus but also abroad and finally for their continuous supportduring the games. In 2003, our fans broke their own record with theimproved figure of 140,740 and the record was broken again the following yearwith 143,033 tickets sold in 13 home matches.

Omonoia isnot only football. The club retains also another 5 sport sections. Basketball,Volleyball, Futsal and also Cycling. Our volleyball team won twice the domesticcup. Our futsal team won the championship in 2009-10 season and progressed inthe main round of the European Futsal Cup.
