OMONIA is by far the most popular team in Cyprus averaging over 12000 spectators per game which is a phenomenon especially if one considers that the population of Cyprus is around 700000. Therefore the club justifiably won the honorary title of “THE PEOPLE’S CLUB”. This is mainly due to the fact that although the club is based in Nicosia enjoys wide support from all areas and regions of the country.

In its successful history of OMONIA has produced top class footballers who will always remain in the football history books. Just mentioning one from the past Sotiris Kaiafas the most prolific in Cyprus who won the European Golden Boot award in 1975-1976 season as the top European scorer with 39 goals. Sotiris Kaiafas was honored as the best footballer of Cyprus on the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of UEFA.

OMONIA also claimed a record of five domestic doubles-in 1972, 1974, 1981, 1982 and 1983. Also CFA declared us as the team of the 20thcentury – remaining the only team to have won the Cypriot Cup 4 consecutive times between of 1980-1984.
